The best way to teach kids about organization?  Get them in on the action with ideas like this one from Martha Stewart.   Make a separate drawer at kid-level to house their plastic dishes and cups.  Section off spaces inside the drawer using wooden or plastic boxes to keep like items together.  Then paint outlines of each type of dish and cup into the bottom of the boxes to indicate where each item should be put away.  You could also use laminated paper outlines taped into the bottom of the boxes.  Once your drawer is ready, enlist your little helpers to unload that dishwasher!

I love this idea, and now, there’s no excuse for them not to return the cups and plates to the correct compartments!  Younger kids will think of it like a puzzle or game!  If you don’t have a deep drawer, but have a low shelf with a small ledge, you can still accomplish this.  Love to hear your thoughts!
