Get control of sports equipment clutter

Racor ball rackBaseball practice on Monday…playing catch in the yard on Tuesday…soccer game on Wednesday…a trip to the batting cages on Thursday.  By the end of the week, you’re standing in the garage, knee-deep in a sporty mess!  Let the Racor Ball Rack (available on Amazon.com) do the sports-equipment wrangling for you.  Bungee cords across the front of the rack keep up to 12 balls in place, allowing kids to reach in and pull out the one they want.  This storage unit also has a removable bag for smaller tennis balls, golf balls, and baseballs as well as hooks to store bats and gloves.  Mount the rack, which holds up to 30 pounds, right on the garage wall to make a designated space for sports-related clutter.

An organized grilling station

hanging--016var-0611mla107230_vertA repurposed garden lattice is put to good use with this summer storage solution from Martha Stewart.  No more running back and forth between the kitchen and the grill!  The site recommends mounting a piece of garden lattice near your grill and attaching metal S hooks to hang all of your barbecuing essentials.  Martha suggests using stainless steel bins and racks, which are rust-resistant, to hold smaller grilling tools.  Hang an oven mitt, grill brush, tongs, spatulas and other utensils within reach for a summer full of stress-free cookouts!

Independent kids…organized mom!

Have a kid at your house who can get himself dressed, but isn’t quite ready to pick out his own outfits yet?  You know, the one who tried to go to school today in his swim trunks, a wool sweater, and flip flops (and it’s snowing outside)?  The Kids Daily Activity Organizer, available on Amazon.com, may be for you.  Pick out outfits for each day of the week and tuck them inside the shelves, labeled Monday through Friday.

Your child will have fun picking his outfit for the day because the whole unit rotates on its hanger for easy access to shoe pockets on the back and other large pockets on the sides.  No more scrambling in the morning to find a clean shirt and no more “creative” outfits that include pajama bottoms and a Hawaiian shirt.

A clever and fun way for kids to help around the house

martha stewart org kids dishesThe best way to teach kids about organization?  Get them in on the action with ideas like this one from Martha Stewart.   Make a separate drawer at kid-level to house their plastic dishes and cups.  Section off spaces inside the drawer using wooden or plastic boxes to keep like items together.  Then paint outlines of each type of dish and cup into the bottom of the boxes to indicate where each item should be put away.  You could also use laminated paper outlines taped into the bottom of the boxes.  Once your drawer is ready, enlist your little helpers to unload that dishwasher!

I love this idea, and now, there’s no excuse for them not to return the cups and plates to the correct compartments!  Younger kids will think of it like a puzzle or game!  If you don’t have a deep drawer, but have a low shelf with a small ledge, you can still accomplish this.  Love to hear your thoughts!

Storage and organization for your pet supplies

If you’re looking for a way to keep all of Fido’s necessities organized and out of sight, try this nice looking storage idea from Better Homes and Gardens.  An armoire with shelves, like the ones for sale on the shop Better Homes and Gardens page, can be a great place to store your pet’s food, treats, and grooming items.  Designate an entire shelf for pet toys to keep them out from underfoot.  The insides of the doors on this armoire are actually chalkboards, a perfect spot to jot down a reminder that you’re low on Fido’s favorite treats!
